1. Stay on Campus

For our honeymoon, I (Nick) surprised Jenna with a 7-day stay at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn Resort! She had no idea it was coming and it was also her first time staying on Disney property. Little did either of us know, our whole perspective of vacationing at Disney World was about to change. From the moment we arrived at the Boardwalk Inn to when we left, our entire stay was worth what we paid, AND then some!

But why should you stay on campus? It’s expensive, but is it really worth the cost? We talk about how to save money on your Disney vacation in this article, but we’re not trying to get you to save money on your honeymoon. Here’s just a few quick reasons to stay on campus for your honeymoon:

  • Free transportation from MCO airport to your resort room, and back!

  • Free bus, boat, monorail, and gondola transportation throughout your entire stay

  • Walk to parks, resorts, dining areas, and even Disney Springs!

  • Extra magic hours! (more time in the parks for resort guests only)

These are just a few great reasons to staying on property! There’s something relaxing about not having to get in a car and travel from place to place on your own. We noticed how much more engaging our time was when we stayed on property. An additional tip: don’t hesitate to stay at a higher-end resort, especially for your honeymoon!

2. Make an Itinerary!

Walt Disney World vacations are unlike any vacation you’ve ever been on. When you go to the beach, you don’t need an itinerary. You just show up, put your feet in the sand, and bask in the hot sun. At Disney World, it’s a totally different experience. With so many things to do and endless opportunities for entertainment, you’ll need a plan to make sure get to do all you want!

How important is an itinerary? It’s probably one of the most important pieces of your vacation! If you’re not sure which parks you’re going to when, you can’t book FastPass for rides, make dining reservations, or intentionally space out park-visit says to rest. Trust us on this one: make an itinerary! You won’t regret it!

To make this one simple, we’re handing out our first freebie! Below, put in your email and we’ll send it to you right away! We intentionally use Google Sheets so we have constant access to it while on vacation.

3. Get FastPass!

If you’re staying on Disney property, you can schedule your FastPass up to 60 days prior to your trip, and 30 days prior if you’re staying off campus. This tip alone can literally save you hours of wait times when in the park! Download the My Disney Experience app, login to your account, and get those FastPasses booked! You can also book them on the Walt Disney World website. Yet another reason to build an itinerary!

4. Book Dining Reservations

We recommend doing this one far in advance. Most restaurants can be booked 5-6 months out which may seem like a long time off, but it’s becoming more of the norm for Disney World guests. For instance, we tried to book the Be Our Guest restaurant 4 months in advance only to find out it had been fully booked for 2 months! To ensure this doesn’t happen to you, make a plan of where you want to go and when so you can take full advantage of your Disney World honeymoon.

5. Schedule Downtime

One our biggest regrets on our honeymoon was not having much downtime. Rather than relaxing at our resort, we spent four straight days in the parks! After the fact, we realized we walked an average of 24,000 steps a day. No wonder we were completely exhausted when we came home!

There’s still so much you can do with your downtime at Disney World, like resort hop, or simply relax in the public areas of your resort. This may seem like a silly tip, but just us when we say you’ll be glad you scheduled some time to relax.

6. Get some Groceries

Whether you’re staying on campus or not, there’s always one thing people forget when planning their honeymoon: groceries! You may think eating out for every meal will be the best option, but it can become expensive and you may want a home cooked meal. If you’re staying on campus, how can you get groceries? Option #1: Uber. But this isn’t the option we’d recommend.

When on our honeymoon, we opted to have groceries delivered right to our resort! We used Garden Grocer, and it was incredible! Simply go to the website, select groceries from over 5,000 items, and set a delivery date! They’ll bring the groceries right to your resort. You can book this delivery service several weeks in-advance, and that’s exactly what we did! When we arrived at our resort on our honeymoon, our groceries were waiting for us! Talk about avoiding stress!

7.) Purchase a Disney PhotoPass!

Who doesn’t want to document their magical Disney vacation?! We highly recommend purchasing a Disney Photopass for your special post-wedding celebration! Photopass gives you unlimited use of the Disney Photopass spots located in dozens of locations in the parks. Photopass Cast Members will snap a picture of you and your spouse anytime you want. There’s no limit to how many pictures you take and all you need is your magic band to store your photos! We opted to use this service and we’re glad we did. Here’s some pictures we got when using Photopass!

8.) Tell the Cast You’re on Your Honeymoon!

Did you know Disney hands out celebration buttons to guests for free? Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or in this case your marriage, cast members are eager to hand you a button to join in on your celebration!

The button you’ll likely get on your honeymoon will say “Happily ever after”, and they’re not just referring to your marriage! This button is like magic. It tells all the cast members and guests that you’re celebrating something incredibly special. On our honeymoon, we wore these buttons EVERYWHERE and it got us tons of free stuff! Just from wearing the buttons, we got a turkey leg, popcorn, cookies, free dessert at THREE restaurants, mimosas, a sticker crown (handmade by a cast member for Jenna!), balloons, and an autographed picture of Mickey and Minnie in resort suite! We’re not promising you’ll get free stuff, but it’s worth slapping that button on your shirt throughout your entire stay!

We hope these tips will add adventure to your magical honeymoon experience in Walt Disney World!

Until next time, to Boardwalk and Beyond!
